Is this website payed for out of peoples extra taxes?
Why is it not being updated?
Perhaps nothing has, or is going to happen.

looks like this site has been abandoned by the parish council, although I reckon as far as the parish council goes, the whole village has been abandoned, what exactly are we paying the extra tax for, seems like we are paying for a bunch of people to sit around feeling important,
if they are achieving anything they certainly aren't shouting about it,
i personally feel that things have gone down hill pretty rapidly in clayton,
hence the reason Im in the process of moving to pastures new! all in all clayton is not a bad place to live but it certainly doesn't seem to be benefitting from having a parish council, are they playing any part in the future of the old middle school. that building could have been used as a great facility for the community maybe replacing the village hall which is not fit for purpose. are they supporting any local businesses, well theres not that many these days, except hairdressers! there seems to be quite a few empty shops now. also there is a lot of rubbish and broken glass around too, maybe they could get involved with arranging some parking notices around the schools or maybe get involved with the decisions about who gets in to the schools, I know theres loads of people unhappy about that process but thats a whole other story. Im sure they have done loads of great things and will go down in local history with the likes of asa briggs and harrison benn etc (ok so maybe not!!) but all I have noticed are a few ropey looking christmas trees half lit up hanging off a few of the remaining shops, (think they call them the christmas lights!) a couple of old plastic crates with a few half dead plants in hanging from trees on pasture lane (think they were trying to pass these off as hanging baskets) why they were hanging off trees and not shops is anyones guess! also that deathtrap thing that has appeared in the park, I have a feeling they might be something to do with that! like i say they may well be doing great things but they must be keeping it to themselves or maybe its just me walking around with my eye's closed or maybe they have all moved away too! they should look at burley in wharfedales website, its full of community information maybe they could get some points on how to communicate with the people who are paying the extra taxes for them to erm well, do what ever it is they do! (cant help thinking of the vicar of dibley parish council for some reason!!)

First off I'd just like to say that this website is not paid for by the parish council (see the disclaimer on the home page).  It is in fact a personal website that I attempt to keep up to date just as a way of getting Clayton on the Internet.

As you might imagine it is quite time consuming finding content to put on the site but I'm happy to publish all appropriate contributions from anyone living in the village (or surrounding areas) so please get in touch.

I did have a link into the parish council so managed to get copies of all Meeting agendas and minutes but unfortunately since the council clerk resigned I've not managed to sort out access to recent copies of the minutes (although hopefully this will change very soon).

Finally I have to say I agree with some of the observations of others on this forum about the state of the village, especially around the park since the Coop moved.  Also the anti-social behaviour I've witnessed by some of the younger people in the village, including the riding of motorbikes with out helmets and one episode where I witnessed the destruction of a traffic bollard on Station Road by a group of 5 or 6 youths who seemed to think it would be good to kick it off its mountings!

Hello,  I am writing from the States.  I was very happy to find this forum, as I am coming to visit Clayton on an ancestor search, but it seems to be quite a sleepy village.  I see that I am the only post for the current year and no one has replied.  I don't know if you have already moved away, but I thought you might know "what's what".  My querry is whether or not there are accomodations in Clayton or if the surrounding area is as close as I will be able to stay.  I have found a couple of Bed & Breakfasts off Horton Rd. and Thorton Rd.  Sorry to trouble you, but the local businesses don't seem to taking advantage of this site.  Sincerely,  Janet of the Ashworth family
